Do you have a favourite club to use? I do. Its my 7 iron. I dont know why. There is no discernable reason. It just feels good in my hands when i stand over it. Club confidence is a must. It needs to feel comfortable in your hands. I say stick with the old hybrid and forgoe the few meters distance. Whats better? Being 200 yds down the middle or 220yds and in the trees?

It will be interesting to see how your fitting goes. I have a difficult time with hybrids, but find fairway woods pretty easy to hit. So, I had a 3-5-7 fairway wood setup, a 4 iron for punching out, since keeping it low is not a problem, and a 5 hybrid. That worked ok, but I wound up using the 5 wood almost constantly, it was just a really reliable club for me. Recently switched to a 4/7 wood combination.

It would be interesting to compare the swing weight and balance points between the two clubs (and the 4i). My understanding is that a hybrid should feel and play like a more stable iron.

I only play with the same 14 clubs, but I don't know why. I can think of some longer courses where I would gladly trade a gap wedge for a 5 wood. Thanks for the tip.

Hey Dan, I do love gear talk... anyway, you could always toss your 4i out for now and play the hybrid then find a 5-wood to bridge that gap. I like to play my 4i in the summer (or in dry places) then play my 4h in the wet. I will also swap in my 2i for my 3w for courses where I know I'll have to punch a lot. I also have a 3-wedge (52,56,60) and 2-wedge (54, 58) setup to go. I have 18 clubs that I'm comfortable with so I can tailor my bag. I really think that having the right sticks in the bag goes a long way toward your confidence to hit the shots you need.
