dan,
you missed one of bear bryants best quotes and perhaps it is especially applicable to golf:

First there are those who are winners, and know they are winners.
Then there are the losers who know they are losers.
Then there are those who are not winners, but don’t know it.
They’re the ones for me. They never quit trying. They’re the soul of our game.

Dan,

Many thanks for taking the time to come back to me.
Now get out there and nail it!
Still rooting for you.

Yours,

Btw, I always appreciate the brief updates on the countdown page. And sorry for failing to get to grips with the comments system again!

Sima,

The point he was making was that there were a few specifics that he mentioned early on and that I had been caught up in other aspects and was not making the type of change that he wanted me to. He was, in his way, telling me that the only way for me to get to the next level was to solely focus on a new turn in my golf swing. It's not that I was not working hard all summer, it was that I was working on B and C when I thought A was successful but in the interim A would revert. I need A to be a concrete unconscious change before I can move on the B and C.

I understand where you are coming from and appreciate the thought. Please know that while this may be presented in the blog as an experiment it is truly and completely my life. There are no chips remaining in my pocket, it is all out on the table and I am not, in any way, taking this lightly.

Thank you,
Dan

Ah, hell, Dan. Maybe you are getting it back, in a way. I'm fairly sure you did have it, or you had what you needed at the beginning, at least. Maybe that was a different thing.

But at this stage, after what's been a pretty difficult summer, to have been working away with a coach for whom you seem to have a good deal of respect, to have him point out that you've not really been trying...

That should really sting.

I mean, *really* sting. Not "Oh, this is an interesting feeling I could blog about' sting. Not "Oh, this reminds me of some nice sounding words from an old time college football coach" sting. But really really hurt! Physical pain. Deep, deep down.

If what he'd said had really got through to you, I don't think you would be able to bring yourself to blog about it right now.

Maybe in six months you would look back on it as a pivotal moment and feel able to share something of the experience with us. But not now. Not if you were really 'in there'.

I love following your progress. I really believe you can become a very, very good golfer. And whatever happens, I'm sure you'll learn a lot, and teach us all a great deal too. But for the experiment to work, it needs to stop being an experiment.

Good point Charlie,

It would be a laundry list of favorite personal sayings and perhaps that is a good idea for a blog post down the road. Football has it's limits, but I think that a lot of what Bear has to say can work in any field, how can you argue with: “When you make a mistake, there are only three things you should ever do about it: 1. Admit it. 2. Learn from it, and 3. Don’t repeat it.” That's deliberate practice in a nutshell.

i am sorry that I haven't been writing more and know that posting a bunch of quotes from a deceased football coach doesn't make for a good blog about what I am personally doing, but there are times where I like to share a bit of the thoughts behind the process.

Keep on keeping on, my friend,

Dan
