I'm sad the short amount of work spent on GEARS was focused on equipment and not the early extension seen in your swing videos during this period. That's a shame. No disrespect, I realize golf is very hard. Wild how ahead of your time you were though with this entire plan, not just working on GEARS and K-vest but also in just vlogging your golf experience in general. This five year story is something I still take lessons from. Thank you, Dan.

I reread the entire blog this year, including all the videos, and I just wanted to say what a joy it was to take this journey again with you. The swing challenges of 2013-2014 and the ending were difficult to read and ultimately accept again, but upon greater reflection, you handled it all as well as anyone could. I want to thank you for sharing this journey with the world online. I learned so much from this experience. Thank you for doing this. It has made my life better, truly. I will always remember to fail forward, Dan.

I really wonder if dry needling wasn't the missing piece here. I'm sure this journey could've used a massage gun along the way as well. Really tough to read these final posts of the blog, but what a journey it was. Like others, I wish the injury was navigated and blogged well, but it ultimately wasn't to be unfortunately.

To me, the formula for sustained improvement in golf is volume plus the right information plus good practice techniques. You got the volume and right information part down, but you never developed good practice techniques. This is very clear to me now reading the blog again all these years later.

Unless you're Bubba Watson, you really need to think about your practice and how you're implementing changes. Your swing was an absolute mess at this point in the journey, held together by insane amounts of volume and not much else. I see how unsustainable this all was now, and it's just so sad the injury happened, but it seems like an inevitable ending more than anything else now. It's so difficult reading your blog in this final chapter, seeing you bogged down with gear talk, never truly delving into how to practice golf properly when one hits their plateau.

You never learned how to develop your full swing. It had so many flaws in it at this point in the journey, and you never demonstrated you understood how to change it for the better. No equipment modification can fix a swing flaw, and you are clearly very bogged down by that idea as a solution. It doesn't take much to look at your swing on video and see several fatal flaws.

This is about 10K hours of deliberate practice and human potential and your deliberate practice didn't evolve enough. You were never able to really change how you swung the club over the last 2-3 years of the journey. I think never fixing your takeaway issue shows that you did not understand how to make changes. That should've only taken one summer or so to at least sort of implement, but it's nonexistent in your swings to this point, and that's after a couple years or so of knowing about the problem. Come on, man.

One of the lessons I take away from TheDanPlan is I have to really think about how I practice. Do I understand what I'm trying to change, why I'm trying to change it, and how I'm going to change it? Because if I don't, I could end up eternally frustrated, quitting the game entirely or worse, injuring myself badly like Dan did.
