Hello Walter,

Thank you for the comment and for finding the blog. The first thing I would like to say is that just because a person is 7 feet tall does not necessarily mean that they will be the next great basketball legend. It does, perhaps (and a big perhaps) mean that the deliberate practice road for them might be a little easier as the right coaches and doors could be opened. There are hall of fame basketball players who are 6 feet tall or even shorter, just not many as the sport is biased towards height and there are certain genetic factors that come into play which assist those who are taller. I don't think that anyone would disagree with the fact that certain genetic traits would lead to a more favorable situation in specific sports, but that has no affect on the amount of practice that someone needs to do to master those sports. I didn't pick offensive lineman for the NFL because it honestly makes zero sense for me. I'm 5'9" 150 and 32 years old. The world is much more open than many may think, but there has to be a bit of common sense in there too. There are plenty of examples of ways that people defy the odds, look at Spud Webb..

Thank you!

I totally agree with your comments about effective practice and passion. However i can’t get out of my head the idea that no matter how hard I work on these I can never be a Michael Jordan because I am not blessed with the fibres that make him leap so high and I’m never going to be 7 foot tall or im never going to swim faster than Ian Thorpe because he has flippers for feet and my feet are tiny. Maybe golf is a more level playing field in terms of genetics which makes it a great game for everybody. I think soccer(football) is similar as it requires huge amounts of skill which can be learn’t rather than being so reliant on genetics. I believe there are many sports that the average Jo Blog, because of genetics will never become a world champ in because the reliance on genetics is simply so big. What do you reckon?

Charlie,

The ground is soggy here. So there wasn't any roll out, the distances were from the tee box to the plugged ball. If there was any roll out it was less than 3 yards and I measured the distance to the ball mark.

Hope all is well :)

Micke,

I have confessed... He said he wanted to be there, but he was stuck in a teaching conference in Orlando all week, so things just had to happen.. We'll get together Sunday for the inaugural lesson, should be good.

Cheers,

William,

I hope to get some of these things sorted out this weekend at the first "driver lesson". I'll keep in mind what you say and ask my coach which way he would like me to develop the swing. Nothing quite like hitting a driver! I'm not sure what will be my eventual distance, but guys these days are hitting it far. One fellow I play with carries it 270-290 in the winter, but he is particularly long. I'm going to have to go for medium length with accuracy based on my smaller frame. We'll get it out there!

Thank you again.
