Josh,

I've read a lot of different golf and non golf related books since the beginning of The Dan Plan. I don't have a complete list, but a few are: Golf is not a Game of Perfect, From Hacker to Hero, Golf in the Kingdom, Tales from Q School, Practice to Learn Play to Win, Dave Pelz' Putting Bible, and some works done by Fran Pirozzolo. There are more, but those are the ones that I remember off the top of my head. Right now, by the suggestion of Fran Pirozzolo, I am reading his Mental Toughness Training manual and an autobiography of Derek Jeter, as well as An Astronaut from Mars by Oliver Sacks (my own interest for that one).

Thanks!

Hello Brice,

Very good point. It's important to not have too many swing thoughts bumping around in that noggin. I've had rounds where I've fallen apart because one bad shot led to over thinking about the swing which contributed to a horrible swing for the rest of the round. It's good to know what you are doing and to be able to do it on auto-pilot as you suggested. The book is on my list, there are still a couple in front of it, though..

Thanks,
Dan

Since practicing with a sense of "consequence" serves the mental side of your game, this suggests a more competitive approach to your practice as opposed to practice in the purest sense of the term.

As such, I would like to recommend that you also learn to go brain-dead once you begin each shot. I'm not talking about the set up....certainly focus and go through your routine as Chris has suggested, but, and this is a big but, once you begin your swing, your mind should go completely brain dead....rely on muscle memory to move you through the shot....if you are thinking ONE single thought through your swinging delivery during the shot, you've missed one of the most important parts of the mental game.

By the way, for more info on how to think about this, it's all in the book I suggested to you about a month ago by George Allen. Hopefully you haven't forgotten about reading that book to improve your game.

Good luck Dan....stay focused....I'm pulling for ya.
