It’s unfortunately true, there are a lot of sacrifices to be made on the path to greatness; ones that most people see as unacceptable. To be great means that there’s no such thing as balance in your life. It’s also important to surround yourself with great people because that’s how you learn to become great. Everyone that’s great is obsessed (and often viewed as, at least a little, narcissistic because of that focus) in some way with what they are great at (but often with very different motivations for it).

That will be exciting, being able to test yourself against others. I know from experience how hard and fun it is to be focussed on one goal, and I found that documenting your progress and insights is very valuable, so good job with this blog. Good luck with your practice.

Hi Bas, I haven’t played in any tournaments as of yet. Looks like the rest of 2011 will be all about gearing up and getting ready and then around this time next year I will start entering as many tournaments as possible to gain experience under pressure. Thanks for reading the blog!
