Hi Paul,

Good point. That's been my goal this week: to eliminate mental mistakes and play with a cool head. It's easy to let a bad shot turn into two or three. Every time you stand over the ball you need to forget whatever got you there and just think about the shot in front of you. I think this will help change some of those bogeys to pars and keep the triples from happening.

Hey Dan,
Remember this my friend. Your score will improve more by bogey avoidance than by making birdies. Look at it this way, on those two rounds you played how much would your score have improved if the few pars you had would have been birdies instead? Maybe 2 or 3 strokes per round? Now look at every bogey you had. If all the +1,+2,+3 and +4 bogey holes improved by just one stroke. Then your bogeys would have been pars, your doulbes would have been singles, your triples would have been doubles etc. I bet your score would have improved by 10 strokes maybe. I'm not saying play scared, just don't play stupid.

Thanks Chris,
I'll definitely post stats as they come in. If I start keeping track of rounds there will be a lot more stats soon.
Cheers for the comment and for reading the blog!

Congratulations! I'd have to imagine you are in a very very small group of players who broke 100 on their very first real round. Also, as a follower of you're blog I love when you're able to post numbers. I think it's by far the easiest way for readers to gauge your progress, so please keep posting stats whenever you can!

Hi Micke,

All of this looks and sounds good. I do keep detailed notes during all of my practice and rounds, just need to translate those into some useable data, which should not be difficult at all. I've also been thinking about establishing a handicap, which could help statistically demonstrate my current level.

Hope to have some numbers up soon. Thank you again for the comments!

I have an idea. Steak only for braekfast; this leave you less of gluten ( bad breath and sluggish, of potatoes and bagel ) and more energy to strike ball, as intestines work less hard during round. Get better weight transfer on ball with empty intestine! You should try this. On my golfing day, I only eat lox without accoutrement or also simply bacon as power meat. I hit 3-Iron 260 yard with good compression newish ball and strong back wind.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else than myself but I would mainly be interested in FIR, GIR, putts/round, chips/round, sand saves, up and downs, pentalties (water, OB, drop). As you said, GIRs aren't that interesting but you could keep score on how many par-3 greens you hit until you get more clubs to your bag.

The stats I collect during a round (for each hole) are:
did I hit the fairway? yes/no
did I slice/hook/duff/top shots?
bunkers?
penalties?
number of chips?
number of putts?

It might seem like a lot but I've created a short notation so that I can easily fit it on a scorecard. Then I feed it all into golfarena.com and it calculates all the stats I want (and lots of stats I'm not interested in). But I'm sure you don't need anything else than your iPhone app to get the stats you want.
