And just to add, I had to rehab thru several shoulder surgeries, which took several years. The tennis elbow seems like small potatoes by comparison though this ailment is shocking challenging to get through, and it takes 9ish months or so.

Anyway, onto the next post! Hope you're still enjoying this crazy game, Dan!

As someone rereading your blog now, I agree it's an illuminating experience. The first couple years are so fun and exciting. The next years it gets tough, but is still very cool and interesting to see you navigate the perils of this crazy game.

All in all, re-reading this has been great. I'm sad I'm less than a year away from the end, but the lessons you've imparted I will take with me on my own golf journey, whenever my rehab finally resolves. I've been rehabbing thru health issues since late 2015 or so? It's been a long journey back to sports and fitness and I'm very nearly there, banging out some tennis elbow I've had since 2011 believe it or not, but I might only have a few months left of treatment before it fully heals. That's the last thing I need to get thru now until I'm strong enough for regular golf again. Perhaps golf life begins at 40 in my case (turned 40 in April).

Hi Dan I edited my own blog from 2010 to 2013 into an ebook and it was a great experience reviewing the memories and events of that times past. It refreshes the commitment to the game. As for having a family visit before the event, that is a good thing. Golfing is not played in a bubble and there is many distractions on and off the course that can influence a golfers round. My attitude is to not concern myself that I have a normal life with other people in it, that is a good thing and golf is part of my life not all of it. Have a great tournament.

Hi Dan. I recently became aware of your story through some of the press coverage. It’s fascinating and impressive and I hope you reach your goal. You mention in the above post that you scored a 97 on your very first round of golf. Is that because you spent a many months perfecting your short game first?? Just trying to fill in the blanks here as scoring a 97 is no small feat.

I am turning 45 and before last Summer never touched a golf club before. Somehow I contracted the golf bug in a BIG way and it now consumes much of my time (awake or asleep). I took a couple of series of lessons with 2 different instructors, practice a fair amount, and have played around ~25 rounds so far (insert 3+ month gap due to Chicago Winter) . My best (and most recent) score so far was 105. I am definitely making progress (albeit slowly). I set a goal to break 100 by season’s end.
