Hi Collin,

Congrats on getting your handicap down to an 18 so quickly, that's awesome. And, with a swing speed like yours, once you groove that stroke you could be shooting some great scores. Also, thank you for the tips about swing speed, I actually have been tucking my left elbow in and it has generated more power, good to know.

Being indoors for the winter can have great benefits. Like you said, you aren't caught up in ball flight and can really work out a new swing. Keep it up and let's tee it up one day soon.

Have a great one,

Dan

Hey Dan, Hello from the north!!!!

If you remember I am the guy up in Canada who picked up clubs for the first time August 16/ 2010 so I am just a few months behind you in this journey we are both under going.

I find a renewed feeling this morning after reading your handicap. Knowing that I am a 18 handicap, which is what I finished at mid October when the temp dropped to much to play outside, and reading your handicap and knowing I started about 4 months behind you - I feel like I am right on track - to some degree. Though my pressures I put on myself to go pro are heavy with the restrictions we have here for year round practice - I think I am progressing nicely. I will shoot you a link one day soon to my swing videos the next time I record one.

Funny thing is, being indoors and not really being able to follow ball flight you can really focus on the swing mechanics. I have about 70 yards to practice in which leaves me using mostly wedges. Its a good thing because I am really keying in my targeting.

Regarding your new clubs - congrats!!!! I have been playing the Cobra combo set (half cavity and half blade) Since last June. Blades are awesome to hit and we are now looking at upgrading this set I have once again for the spring as my speed has increased a ton since the fall. We clocked my driver at 130 mph and 7 iron at 93 mph two weeks ago so my shafts are way under rated. Its going to be hard to pick a new set. Ping, Nike or Mizuno - not sure yet. My set now is mixed between Nike and Cobra.

I seen your recent video when you where getting tips on how to increase your speed. If you want, try tucking your left elbow into your ribs when you start your down swing. This helps draw speed and power from your shoulders and creates more lag. Doing this for what you say 7 min will also help keep you turning through with your shoulders which I don't see as a problem in your videos but....it helps. Also, if your having problems getting your weight through the ball try starting your downswing movement by pushing off your left foot. It drives your hips into the lateral move before your start your shoulder turn. Think push and post!!!

Your swing is looking a ton better then a few months ago when I first starting watching - keep it up.

Dan, sounds good.
I will be off work over the Christmas/New Year so if we get any half decent weather, drop me a mail (I think you can access my email from this post??) and we can get a little bit of golf/practice in. Our club is pretty sweet even at this time of the year.

Hi Alan,

Very random, but I will be in Atlanta starting December 22 for about three months. I'd love to hit some balls at some point, so let's tee it up!

Hey Dan,

I am in the middle of a similar (though not quite as impressive) goal with regards to my golf game.
If you are in Atlanta at any point and want a game, mail me. I play at the Golf Club of GA and would love to swap some knowledge/experiences gathered.

Best of luck. You can succeed!

Hello Mr Whitmore,

Glad you heard the Canada radio show. Hope it went pretty well. They got the numbers backwards, but it was fun to be on there :) I have 8,000 to go, not 8,000 under the belt..

Cheers!
