Also, notice you shot 9 over par (losing 10 strokes and getting one back) - Here is where you lost your strokes:

Driver 3 (4,6,9)

Irons/hybrids = 3 (5, 11, 13)

Wedges = 3 (5, 16, 18)

Putt = 1 (17)

Of course your wedges and putter saved you on other times where you could have lost a stroke. But my point is, even if you didn't lose those strokes due to the driver, you'd still be close to 80. You definitely already have the skills locked in to not lose any strokes on your wedges and iron, make sure you get them as consistent as your putter. Once that happens you can master your driver (that was the plan all along, right? Leave the driver for last?)

Hope you had a good round today, I know I didn't!

Dan,somethings is weird about your club selection. You had 167 left on 13 and you hit a six iron. Then on 15, with 145 yards and against a breeze you shoot a 9i? Of course it was going to be short! Anyway great job on the short game, if you driver was working I'm sure you would shoot in the mid 70s

Hey Dan,

Sounds like your putting is saving you quite a lot. Just think what you would shoot if you could find more fairways and therefore more GIR. 2 pieces of advice for you.

1. Get a 3 wood for the sub 400 yard par 4s. At most you'll be hitting 5/6 iron into the green which is still preferable to chipping back out onto the fairway from the trees.

2. Try to forget about hitting the ball when your on the tee. Really focus on swinging with a smooth tempo and just letting the ball get in the way. Trust that your swing will get the distance you need without feeling like you have to HIT the ball. I think that may be what happened when you ditched the driver and started using the hybrid as well.

Leading up to the tournament you had discussed having problems with driver. I thought lacking confidence in and switching drivers was going to cost you but you seem to have survived the initial day without too much damage. Well done.
Not sure why you are playing without a fairway wood and abandoning the driver really leaves you with a short set. No doubt you will fix that soon.
Hope day 2 goes well.
