That’s unreal you met and worked a bit with Michael Neff, who would go on to found GEARS. You really were doing an incredible job dissecting golf and how it can and should be learned. That’s crazy. Really hope you’re still enjoying this game somewhere, Dan. Cheers.

Hey Dan interesting comments about flightscope and trackman, however a system you may want to check out is the one at Boccieri Golf in Scottsdale, I am not sure of the name of it, but I though it was better than trackman and many Champions tour players at Q School last November were using the system, and I have the Jack Nicklaus Secret Grips on my clubs from this company, as they let me check out their state of the art system last November. Been battling a cold also, as rains are heavy this October in Oregon, hope to be in Arizona soon or around Thanksgiving. Keep up the progress and enjoy winter golf trips. Keep smiling! Vince

Dan, your progress has been very impressive. It was very interesting that the change in your club configuration made such a marked difference. I think the most telling statement was,
“Neff said a lot of the issues I have been struggling with were due to my club setup. He was not trying to sell me anything and I trust his technical knowledge”

I wish such a person was available to us all. It is hard to trust a club fitting at any golf retail establishment.

the days are long gone when good players used the manta “looks good, feels good, tis good”
Without technology utilization today, a player is standing behind a locked door. Such a shame
that technology isnt available on a daily basis at my home course. Instant feedback is such a
wonderful way to improve.

While I think it is great that you are using a Flightscope, I feel it’s a step forward, I have to say I’m skeptical of your swing speed and smash factor claims.

You are saying that your 7-iron swing speed got “up well above 90mph ” while your smash factor was around 5% more efficient than that of a PGA Tour professional. This would mean you are both swinging faster and contacting the ball closer to the center of the face than a PGA Tour professional. I find this a bit far-fetched myself.

As for the Flightscope, I’m looking forwards to seeing you post some data up from it. In addition, I know I would appreciate seeing swing videos with commentary from your instructor so that it’s clear what you’re working on and why.

I’ve really liked working with a monitor but not so much try to match my swing to “optimal” numbers but to see the numbers behind my good swings. I know there are a lot of folks who like to bag on the use of these devices but if you can put the data to good use, you’re going to play better golf.
