Thomas,

Hmm, Guess whatever seems to work with you works, right? If it's better for you to work with no consequences and just focus on mechanics and those mechanics still work during a tournament round than all is well in the golfing world!

Keep it up!

Interesting, I try the opposite, and try to make my shots during the round have no consequence. Ie: develop your routine and what happens happens. Instead of adding stress to your practice, take stress away from your round. I noticed my game improved considerably when I started focusing on process and not the result.

The classic drill for putting practice is to force yourself to make 100 (or 50 or 25) 3-footers in a row. If you're disciplined enough to make yourself start over when you miss, the pressure that builds will be real.

Another practice technique, with an entirely different purpose, is to raise your heart rate by doing some quick exercises -- jumping jacks or mountain climbs -- and then stepping up to hit a shot. This simulates the racing heart you may feel when faced with a pressure putt or swing in competition. The causes are different but the effect will be the same.

That is a very interesting idea. My first thought was to force myself to take 10-20 practice swings for every bad shot. I find practice swings boring, so it would serve as a good reason to focus on my actual shots.

Hi, it seems difficult to create the same 'consequence' in daily practice on the range as in a competitive round. Anybody got tips how to do that? I think negative consequence may have more impact than positive.
