Hey Alex,

If I do end up in Dallas I'll definitely find you. There are a lot of Tour players who live around those parts and I think it would be a good option. I'll be making a choice come October and will let you know. Even if I don't end up there this year, I'm sure we will be crossing paths eventually.

Thanks!

Texas stays pretty warm in the winter, but the rain is hit or miss. Sometimes it barely rains and other times we get hurricanes.

Of, that also depends on what part of Texas you go to. I live in Dallas, it doesn't get as much rain as East or Southern Texas (both much closer to the coast), but it gets less than West Texas. However, the higher you go in West Texas the more likely it is to snow.

I like Dallas, and for the most part the weather isn't bad. The one big advantage of this state is it is one of the cheapest places to live (especially coming from Portland).

If weather is most important, you probably want to check out Arizona - it doesn't rain much and the winters are nice. Though, it does get hot there quickly once spring hits.

Good luck deciding! If you decide on Dallas I would love to take you out for coffee sometime.

that would be great Jake. Not sure what the plan are right now, but New Zealand is definitely on the roster. I appreciate the offer and will be in touch if I can make it there next January.

Cheers!

If you're considering New Zealand I may be able to help out with a few months of accommodation, mostly in Auckland but I have a few contacts around the place. Just give me an email if you have any questions. Cheers

Tony, I've never been to Hawaii, but everyone always talks about the golfing there. Think it's a great place to start looking for a winter home course!

Geoff,

You definitely have a point, it's good to train in harder circumstances than what you will play in, but at the same time the conditions here are so different than anything you would ever find on tour that you have to wonder if you are really optimizing your time. I think that there is a lot of merit practicing in high winds and rains, but is it truly good to practice on flooded putting greens? would you get a good feeling for break and speed if there is standing water? I'm not sure and last year I practiced through everything, spent 6 hours a day out there regardless of the weather. I wouldn't mind doing that again, but at the same time if I could go to a new place with new grass types and new obstacles and new weather/wind/rain patterns, maybe it would be best to venture out and try something new..

Cheers for the comment!

Any excuse to spend any portion of your life in Maui is highly reccomended, well advised, and never regretted.
Live in a grass hut there if you have to ... it's worth it. The smell of that air, the people, the food ... and some of the best golf on the planet.
