Good point Luke,

Hard to say where I'd be, but if it's based on potential than I can imagine it will be a bit easier to get that number down. All in good time. Thanks for sharing!

I'm a fan of that too, can't wait until I can plug in full rounds and see what happens. I'm a statistician at heart. Thanks Tony

I too am a golf novice and active blogger. It's very interesting the way you are going about learning the game. I think it's quiet genius that you are starting with the smaller more technical strokes and working your way to the long game. Keep at it and thank you for sharing your story.

DAN,
BEFORE I WRITE WHAT I WANTED TO WRITE ABOUT, HERES SOME INSPIRATION : MY FRIEND (WHO USED TO BE ON THE NATIONWIDE TOUR) STARTED GOLFING WHEN HE WAS IN COLLEGE. HE WAS A SCRATCH GOLFER IN THREE YEARS. SO I THINK YOU HAVE A GOOD CHANCE WITH 6 YEARS TO GO PRO.

THIS IS MY THIRD SEASON GOLFING, I LIVE IN NJ AND TRY TO GOLF ALL WINTER BUT NORMALLY LOSE JANUARY TO FEBRUARY BECAUSE THE COURSES ARE SNOW COVERED. I JUST FOUND OUT MY HANDICAP. BEFORE I TELL YOU WHAT IT IS, HERES THE DEAL:

I HAVE HAD MAYBE 6-8 ROUNDS UNDER 90, TWO 82'S ARE MY LOWEST ROUNDS. ON ANY GIVEN DAY, I CAN STILL SHOOT OVER 100, BUT AVERAGE IN THE LOW 90'S. BECAUSE OF THE 82'S, IT PUTS MY HANDICAP AT 15.7. I THOUGHT I WOULD BE A 25 HANDICAP BECAUSE I AVERAGE MID-LOW 90'S. MY FRIEND IS A 25 AND HE AVERAGES THE SAME. HE JUST DOESNT HAVE THE LOW ROUNDS I DID.

WHAT MY POINT IS, YOU ARE PROBABLY A LOWER HANDICAP THAN YOU EXPECT, RIGHT NOW. IT GOES OFF YOUR POTENTIAL, NOT YOUR AVERAGE. GOOD LUCK

PS, I HAVE ALOT OF DIFFERENT PUTTERS. LONG, BELLY, SHORT, BIG GRIPS, MALLETS, BLADES, EVERYTHING. I PUT WITH ALL OF THEM BECAUSE I THINK SWITCHING PUTTERS ALL THE TIME MAKES YOU BETTER. GIVE THAT A SHOT.

Hello Tony,

Good point. If I did start entering those I'd have a handicap in no time. It would be funny to explain too: "I have a handicap of 20, but that's with a pitching wedge and putter only."
I'll start hitting with the 8-iron this week and once I get that down, maybe I'll start gathering a handicap from the red tees.
Thanks!
