That's great to hear! The main point of The Dan Plan is to get people to follow their dreams if you are starting your writing plan then we are both on our way to success! I'd love to read your book one day, we should make a pack, finish both of our projects in the next five years :) Not sure how much TV you watched, but it would definitely open up some free creative time to write instead, how great! Sounds like you are on a good path, stay motivated!

Congratulations Dan on one year! i just discovered your Plan, and am totally inspired! i gave up drinking one year ago on April 15 (not that i was a big drinker but i wanted to be healthier and meditate more also- and thats turned into a lifetime thing now!). Im a High School teacher and i always tell my students "nothing becomes hard with practice". You really have to put in the hours and 'talent' is the result. I am considering as i have been working on two novels i wrote for almost 2 years now however i find myself stopping and starting often - however after reading your blog today i am considering putting in 6 hours of 'practice' a day and give up television to free up more time. i will let you know how i go. maybe i will start my own blog. but yes, discipline is the key to success.. even the H.H.Dalai Lama says - it takes about ten years of meditating EVERYDAY to see any results.. We humans tend to think in such short time frames and really 6 years is such a short time in the scheme of things..
I cant wait to hear about you playing some tournaments and i can already see the interview with you on Letterman. oh, hang on, i wont be watching tv. :)
you will have to post it here!

best wishes.
look forward to reading more of more successes and tribulations..
im off to write.. setting the stop watch now..
i figure if i can write and practice the craft of writing for 6 hours a day for 6 years i should have SOMETHING for publication in 6 years. if not one novel then several.

thanks for the inspiration!! thanks so much!!

Thanks for the comment! I haven't thought about splitting it up into two 10,000 hour sections, and honestly don't think I want to think about that right now :) One thing at a time.. We'll see what happens. I'd love to talk with a pro about their practice routines one day, would be very interesting

A very impressive endeavor. I admire your objectives, drive and focus and hope you really love the game as you go. Golf can be very frustrating and also a lot of fun. Sometimes in the same hole!

Have you considered that since golf is at least 2 different games, ie: putting and full swing, that you might need 10,000 hours each to master it?

I would be curious to know if anyone can estimate how many hours Tiger Woods or Jack Niclaus played and prcticed before turning pro.

Thanks Charlie!! Someone on Facebook today said I should give away prints of the photographs as a "thank you" for donations.. Could be a good way to keep the train rolling over the next five years!
I'm definitely keeping a personal journal along the way. Every day I write a paragraph of my daily training thoughts, including everything that is going on in life. I already find some comfort in looking back at random days to see what was going on, if it was a good one or tough one. It helps for remembering that everything doesn't always go your way and there are definitely hard times mixed in with the great ones. Thanks for the comment!

Adam: welcome to the blog and thank you for the kind comments! I really appreciate it, thank you! I have found a great coach and it was coincidentally through a man who practices Chinese medicine here in Oregon, they work together at a Physical Therapy studio near where I live. Christopher, my coach, is the right man for the job and I cannot emphasize how important it is to have the right coach during a project like this. Without proper feedback it is very easy to get lost in the details. He is always pointing out bad habits that I might be starting to have before they become too infused in my swing/putting.
I hear you about the self-help books, sometimes they can be a bit unrealistic..
All we can do in life is what we can do today, make it a great day and you'll have a great life!
