Tom,

Think you are pretty right on with the swing flaw i've been working on. It took my a while to figure out how it was supposed to feel, but yesterday I actually had an amazing breakthrough and think that I know exactly what I need to do now. My goal this week: work on it until it becomes my natural swing. That's the best thing about being relatively new to the game, you can actually change your swing fairly quickly. On the flip side, it's also easy to head in the wrong direction if you are not engaged in what you are doing..

cheers for pointing this out,

Obviously I have not analyzed your swing but I had a similar problem this spring. I was hitting a cut rather than a draw and losing distance as a result. My instructor explained to me that I was cocking my wrists to soon on the backswing and as a result, increasing the likelihood of error when I tried to put the club face square.

In other words, you are lifting the club instantly on your backswing. If you are athletic, you can compensate for this error on the practice range because you can get the timing right with repetition. However, it is almost impossible to hit consisently on the course using this swing.

At his direction, I worked on turning my back to the target and swinging my hips through without cocking my wrists at all for several weeks. It was almost a half swing with the focus simply on contact. I was able to fix the problem and eliminate the cut swing. Check with your coach and see if this is what is going on.

Howdy Logan,

Glad to hear you are working on kinks in your swing, it's an ever-evolving beast that golf swing..

I typically practice 6 hours a day. Depending on the day and what I need to work on that week, that time is broken up differently. Some days I'm on the putting green for six hours, some on the range, but normally I'd say it's about 2 on putting, 2 on swinging and then 2 on scoring games. However, that's a gross generalization and really time is spent where it is most needed that day..

Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the update. Keep up the great work and the blogging! I'm also in the stage on my swing overhaul where i am not hitting the ball squarely (due to club face being open about 9-25 degrees) Frustrating when all the balls that are being hit solidly are flying right (right handed).

How many hours a day are you working on your golf game? and how are you dividing the time up (i.e. swing mechanics, scoring game, putting etc)

Do you have the specs of the clubs and shafts they fit you with? I'm pretty sure you are using their Pro Combo irons now from the pic of the 6 iron. Are they moving you to a forged set or more of their game improvement irons?
