Ben,

Thanks for that, sometimes it's hard to remember where we come from. I think it's important to go back and look at our past to see how much has been learned or changed over the years..

cheers!

Hi William,

You are definitely on to something here. This is a long conversation, but the basic point is that I agree with you about how someone can get down to par (or close to there) by scrapping by and pulling some shots out of the air, but in order to become a great player you have to be able to command the ball in the way that it needs to be commanded. I have been, and always will be, working through some issue directly related to that. I know I can shoot a specific score if I play the way I know I can play, but I will never be able to get better than XXX, but if I change my swing and approach I will, in theory, be able to extend myself and have an ultimately better game. Right now, I am in that transition period where you really want to hit the ball how you know you can hit it, but instead, do the new "style" and end up hitting quite a bit of fat or bladed shots.. Not sure if this makes any sense, but what I am trying to say is that you're right and that the only way I think this is possible is to be able to keep yourself from getting into mediocre habits that won't allow you to reach your ultimate goals.

Thank you, as always, for the comments.

hit them well!

Del,

Thank you very much for sharing the book. The quality of my teaching just increased 10-fold and it wasn't that poor beforehand!

Dan,

Wondering if you are optimizing your practice is quite normal. The book that Del suggested talks about not getting off the bus too early. This might be what you are feeling right now. Belief in yourself and your goals is now more important than ever.

Hey Dan,

I think I found out about the book mentioned above on this website...no? In any case, del is right, this book seems to hit exactly on what you're talking about.

What I really wanted to comment on, though, is the fact that you've made a ton of progress over the last 2000 hours. Even though you've just started using something besides an iron or a putter, you're posting some really great scores from the white tees, scores that the guys I play recreational golf with would all mark as a decent day.

Yes, there might be a better way to practice, but don't lose sight of the objective fact that you're making great progress!
