Congratulations! That's a big hurdle - especially since you are so new at this game.

Like you said, you have to stay bold; getting comfortable now will only hurt you. Good luck! 1700+ hours down. Can you imagine it? What kind of game will you be playing when you hit 10,000 hours!

Hi Chris: I was -1 without any stroke help, was having a good day :)

Geoff: Competition is where it's at, forces you to step up the game! I can't wait until I can enter the local men's clubs and then step it up again for the amateur tournaments and then go bigger yet. Starts with these small competitions and then builds on itself..

Sean: True! Go bold and brave or go home! Play smart and take calculated risks, don't change the game plan just because you have a temporary lead.

Dan,

Very good lesson learned about playing boldly.

At Q school you will have to start strong and end strong.

Those that are looking to play "safe" with a lead will be quickly passed by those going for calculated risks.

The key is if those calculated risks have been well practiced, they really aren't risks but just smart strategies or opportunities ready to be exploited.

Enjoy the free lunch!

That is what the competative game of golf is about Dan. Winning and defeating the rest of the field by coming in with the best score. I play on average two competition rounds per week, "9 hole Chicken Run" on Friday and 18 hole club comp. Sundays. The friday comp is a real chalenge as every time a player wins and or gets 20 Stableford points a stroke comes off their hcp. Bonus for me is through winning that I play Friday off 10 while my official hcp is 14. Great preparation for the Sunday round, which is open hcp and it is hard to beat 25+ Hcp golfers who have good rounds and end up with nett 64's or 46+ points in stableford rounds. Even so I have came second the past two weeks with net 68 (playing to 12hcp) My current practise routine is baxk into comp. preparation for the begining of various club opens from July onwards. Benefit is to be playing well at the home club inreadiness for travelling around the region and trying to win against the open competitors.

That course looks great! Were you -1 scratch or did you count your 4 strokes in that score? Either way that's pretty impressive. I'd love to have the short game confidence I assume you have obtained over the last year.

Thanks Dylan!

The 8-iron is swinging away. Distance is good, although the landing zone varies about 30 yards left to right... Aim is next on the deliberate practice list!

Cheers!
