I took two weeks off about three times during my own quest and it was certainly a wise thing to do. After all the golf you certainly need a break! It's easier for you because you can just 'stop the clock' whereas I had a fixed deadline. I should have done it your way!

Managing downtime is just as important as managing swing time.

Hi Jordan,

Thanks for finding the blog. Out of curiosity, what does your coach say you need to do?

It's hard to offer any advice, especially to someone who has about 20 years more experience than I do, but one thing that the people I talk with say is that you always need to practice your weaknesses, so after every round analyze your score and see where you are giving away strokes then in the mornings when you are freshest work on those areas. Keep this up and if you are not improving with your coach (give him or her the time they deserve) then perhaps it's time to find a new person to work with. It's crucial to have good eyes on your game because proprioception can only take you so far..

Wish I had advice for you, it's a tough game! Thanks again for finding the blog and have a great weekend!

Dan, what would you have to say about a guy who is now 26 years old and has played since the age of 4? I am very good but rarely shoot better than low 70's at average difficulty courses. I would say I've logged 10,000 hours of either practice or play, but it wasn't quite as deliberate as your practice. Where do I go from here if I want to make the PGA Tour?

Charlie, you are right :) It's good to take a break during a break. I'll avoid golf for a few days, but can tell already that I miss it and will be ready to hit the links hard next week!

Thanks Andrew, Vanessa dumplings sounds good, I'll try and check it out! I could imagine that it would be difficult to golf in the city. Every city has different things on the table and large amounts of space dedicated to one sport just isn't in the books for NY. I'm sure there are some good driving ranges, but the cost is probably prohibitive.. Instead of worrying about practice, I'll partake in some good food and perhaps a show :)
