		<description><![CDATA[@Charlie: Can&#039;t remember what publication it was in (many years ago),  but a pro was espousing the virtue of removing the flag prior to an amateur hitting their approach, thereby forcing the player to aim for the  center  of the green on every approach. The experiment was conducted with six players with handicaps of 8-16 (I think that&#039;s right). The group shaved an amazing 5 shots each per round off of their scores.

Dan is already focusing on course management (where to miss/not miss), so I doubt he&#039;d see similar results, but for many, it&#039;s a good strategy.

Nicklaus primarily used the conservative strategy on courses/holes where par was a good score (U.S. Open, et al). In most professional non-majors, par won&#039;t cut it and pin seeking is the order of the day for those guys. Tiger is another player that will par a tough course to death.]]></description>
