I have enjoyed reading some of your blogs. Keep up the good work ~ 'Aunt' Margo

Good on ya "Neil the martyr'. We had our caravan stolen last year but I didn't ask for sympathy and I certainly didn't set up a blog and hint for donations. I took it on the chin, thought to myself that I should have hack sawed the tow bar off ha ha. It's a tough old world out there and we know life is not fair, so get on with it. For crying out loud there are people in our world trying to survive on $1 a day.

Dan,
I'm so glad everything has turned out well for Mary. This really restores ones faith in the human race.
As for the people on this forum questioning the reasons why the money was stolen....get a grip!
How many times have you left home and forgotten to put the burglar alarm on? You don't expect the house to be robbed!
As for the stirrer asking what Mary thinks about Dans financial situation....it has sweet FA do with you!

All the best,

Hi Sam,

That's a good question. I think that it's important to know that Mary and I have been dating for the past year and when we met I had already been doing The Dan Plan for almost 2 years so it was established that this is what I do. As far as my finances are concerned, I contribute my half to the relationship through the savings that I began the project with. Whenever I can, I try and add in what is possible to help everyone get by. Her bakery business does well and she has worked hard to make it successful. I should ask Mary to write a guest blog about this as I do not want to put words in her mouth, but from what I know she enjoys being financially independent and knows that there are certain sacrifices you have to make when you are starting your own business. We are both growing in what we do and are aware that the journey and struggles involved are the fun part of life. This is the unknown and a time where we can work towards our dreams together. Things are not always perfect and sometimes finances are tight for both of us, but we will get through it together and be stronger as individuals and as a couple because of it. Neither of us got into a relationship for money or for material objects, we are together because we inspire each other and help make one another better people.

I was curious about this so just asked her and she said: "I was a single working mother before we met and just because we started dating doesn't mean I want you to stop following your dreams, and I like what you do."

I think this subject deserves a full blog soon down the road. Perhaps Mary will write something soon from her point of view on all of this.

Cheers,

Dan

Dan, given marys apparent financial hardship (living month to month off of pie sales) how does she/the kids handle the fact that you are spending 100,000 playing golf and not working for 4+ years?

James,

She doesn't normally keep anything more than change in the cart, but it was thanksgiving and she was out of deposit slips and we went straight from the cart to a friend's house for dinner and she didn't want to carry around the cash so thought that it would be safe locked inside a business and in a lock box for the night, but as fate would have it it was the night that someone decided to break in. In retrospect it would have been safer for Mary to bring the cash along and she learned a hard lesson through this experience.

It's unfortunate that we live in a world where locks are not enough to keep earnings safe for a night.
