Hi Brooklyn -- sorry for the confusion -- I play to a 10! I meant to say that my advice was coming from me, an 10 hcp, to Dan, who is a 5. But I added an extra couple strokes to my own for some reason (mental lapse, I guess.) Anyway, thanks for your kind words.

I would mention that taking lessons at GolfTec helped my game tremendously. I stopped going since I got married, but if I had continued taking lessons like I was, I'm sure I'd be somewhere in the single digits by now.

Love your comment/advice to play an hybrid off the tee ! I decided to drop the driver to play my much more consistent 3 wood off the tee. I have a 12.5 hcp and my goal is to play around 5. What did you improve to reach the handicap of 5 ? Thanks.

With the Driver, the top pros have their shoulders remaining somewhat closed fairly deep into the downswing. Their shoulders are somewhat closed at the start point of the release. Their shoulders are still a little closed half way into the release.

These prevent opening up the shoulders too soon in the Driver downswing. Having the shoulders opening too soon in the Driver downswing can cause pulling, pushing, and possible lost of distance. When the leading shoulder turns too far rearwards due to excessive and early opening of the shoulders, the leading shoulder can pull the clubhead, and point the clubface too much to the rear of the golfer resulting in pulled shots. Pushing also can result, when the excessively opened leading shoulder pulls the hands to much in front of the teed up ball for the drive. Opening the shoulders too much tends to increase the distance of separation between the upper body and the leading arm, which tends to slow down the downswing turn.
