An excellent article as I know how you feel. I have started on a journey to reduce my handicap and am finding practice and playing fun again. The lessons I have recently had have helped and the pro knows my swing and faults so well. This is the key to improving, and setting a long term goal is the key aids development and provides focus.
Keep the faith and work hard.

yes you should keep your handicap status up to date, Because like all golfers 'us' readers know how hard the game is and have all had times when our handicap climb, and as followers of yours we would understand and appreciate the reality of what just happens. You think your handicap is just going to nicely keep dropping down to below scratch? your kidding yourself keep the post consistent and update your handicap twice a month like before.

I had no intention of posting again but I owe you and Dan some further explanation of where I'm coming from. I'm not even a golfer but somehow came across how Dan has launched this ambitious experiment to see if the 10,000 hours theory holds water. Not in a weak armchair academic fashion. No, this guy was quitting his job and putting it all on the line. A very gutsy move from many perspectives: financial, tremendous time investment, social risk etc. I was extremely impressed. Here was finally a man acting as a man. No afraid of all the work, commitment, fatigue, boredom, and negativity that would inevitably be thrown his way. The comments of one jerk who would manage to crowbar how he could play better golf with less practice .. go away, he was missing the point. This isn't about golf. The big picture is to learn is a man become an expert at something by investing enough hours of smart hard work into it and an under-story of one mans courage to try.
I would have loved to see posts of how difficult is was, how people think he's nuts or how his handicap hit the crapper and through all this that he was persevering anyway and working his way through these things.
I'm just annoyed because as you put so well "Dan is in express violation of the contract he hammered out with us". I guess I was hoping for a heroic story of years of struggle and not giving up. And what I see instead is a big rah-rar sort of thing.
To Dan's credit he did post my no-holds-barred comment and that took guts and honesty. These comments will soon be buried under other blog entries and Dan will ultimately be who he is. Either way, I have no hope of desire to change that, but was just was pointing out how the situation appears to me.
