And we’re off!

Officially left the job yesterday.  Was a mix of emotions, but all in all everyone was very supportive of The Plan and had nice thing to say about my tenure in Newberg.  I met some really great people out there and hope to keep in touch with all of them throughout this next stage in life.

It is always a little sad and hard to leave something secure and comfortable behind, but there are times when that is necessary for growth and whether or not what I’ve done turns out to be a good idea or a horrible misadventure, I hope to learn from it and then in the future I will be able to bring a new skill set to the table (even if that skill is just a really good golf game..).  Four years from now, when the plan is completed, it will be good to look back at all of this and work out which choices were for the positive and which for the negative.  For the time being, we can just stick to our plans.

On a side note, a friend and former colleague got let go yesterday.  It was sad to see that person go and I wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors, and as hard as something like that can be on a person, I think that they will weather the storm well and come out a happier person in the long run.  Also, that happening, helped reaffirm my decision.  There is no guarantees in life and even if I had decided to stick out my former position, who is to say I would not have been let go too, perhaps next year or twenty years down the road.  It is not a good idea to run scared, but I also think it is unhealthy to stick with something if your heart is not behind it.   Sorry, I don’t want to get preachy, but I am trying to justify my own decisions through the misadventures of others.

All in all, yesterday was a good day.  I left Newberg with a fresh outlook and a giant sense of excitement for what is to come.

For now, off to meet with swing coach Chris to hopefully pick out a putter or two.  Then, it’s time to get some rain gear, because the sun probably isn’t going to be shining all next week..

Officially quit the job!
