Beatin’ the Heat

I Went out to Heron extra early this morn to get in a full session before things warmed up too much, and before I had to go down to see Darren for my weekly cognitive training meeting.  It was real quiet and nice from about 7-8:30, so I think I will try and do that more often, especially through the summer.  In the winter it wouldn’t exactly be light out yet, so will opt for a bit more sleep..

The day went fairly well, although I must say that if you have to get worse before you get better, I’m due for a major improvement in the coming weeks.  I feel like my putting distance is especially off, and my aim is creeping towards the left these days.  However, I know that this is all basically a case of “a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing” going on.  Two months ago, I’d be happy to hit the ball remotely straight, now I feel like I should be able to two putt everything and beat anyone that I putt against. Just need to calm down and hit the grindstone!

I met and played 36 putting holes with a guy named Shane today.  He’s an ex baseball player who is thinking about pursuing golf full time next year to see if he can make the tour.  He’s a good putter and beat me by two strokes.  If he comes out to Heron fairly often, our games will be a good judge of my progress.  Eventually, I’d like to have a bunch of regulars out there to play; it’s where I get the best feedback of my game.  It doesn’t really matter how good you are while practicing, it’s the competitions that really matter.  The only way to get better at those is experience..

Speaking of competitions, if anyone’s ever in the neighborhood, I’m always up for a game!
