A super slow motion Dan Plan swing

Take a look at this super slow motion swing.  There is a lot going on here and I think I watched it about ten times focussing on different aspects from the take-away all the way through to the finishing posture.  What do you all think?

The main issue that stood out to me was the very first thing that Scott Hamilton pointed out during our lesson at Cartersville Country Club yesterday.  Namely, that my hips sway off the ball during the swing.  That and he was showing me that if you draw a line behind my rear at setup you can see that by impact I have come off of that line and hunched my back.   When my waist comes towards the ball it forces me to flip the club at the ball, which was the third thing he pointed out.  I knew that my lower body was looking funky, but couldn’t put my finger on exactly what was going on.  Once Scott pointed those things out it completely made sense to me what had been going on.

All in all, there are some good things about these swings and some solid working points.  When I saw this earlier in the week I knew immediately that I had been falling away from the basics that I worked on last year, it’s easy when practicing daily to either slowly work in the right or wrong direction and at times it’s hard to know which way you are moving.  Without a doubt, I have been heading down a good path, but the hip sway and lower body in general needs to be addressed before it gets too out of hand.

Would love to hear some thoughts about all of this.

I had a two hour lesson with Scott and there was a lot to talk about.  He gave me a video of the entire lesson and I was going to post it, but unfortunately the audio wasn’t working well.  Next time I come to Georgia (probably in March) I’ll make sure we capture the audio.

Scott is a great coach and every time I see him it’s an eye-opening experience.  For more info on him check out:  http://scotthamiltongolf.com

On an unrelated note:  Per the advice of a few Dan Plan followers, I am experimenting with link ads on the site.  I hope that they are not too intrusive and I will be keeping an eye on them to make sure they don’t clutter up the site.  After so many months of running the site it’s time to find a couple ways to have it help fund the project.  I am also thinking about incorporating a small online store where I link to practice related items that I find particularly useful.  Thank you!
