Golf as weight loss..
One of the original benefits, or goals, of The Dan Plan was that it would help me get into better shape. I wasn’t in terrible shape at the onset and wouldn’t say I’m in great shape by any means now, but there has been some changes over the past 9 months. It’s nothing compared to what people around me have done (I’m looking at you, Suz, and you’re AMAZING transformation) in the past year, but still worth a blog..
I should preface all of this with the a confession. I’ve got a bit of an ice cream habit that I have not been able to kick as of yet. If it’s around, I’m going to eat it and when it’s not around I find myself driving to the store late in the eve to pick some up. Of all the bad habits in the world, it’s not the worse, but anything in that kind of quantity is not good for you, so I’ve decided that when I get back to Portland I’m going to stop having it at home completely, if I want it I will go out and get it.
Ok, confession over. now to current food choices.
For breakfast, I have one of three things: a) a bowl of oatmeal with nuts and fresh fruit, cup of coffee and a glass of spirulina. b) bowl of granola and plain yogurt, (I like bulk granola that has no artificial sweeteners) with flax seeds added and a glass of spirulina. c) the unhealthiest choice but easiest to bring with, a bagel with cream cheese and a slice of turkey, and a glass of sprirulina.
For lunch, I bring a turkey sandwich on the heartiest bread I can get, usually “Killer Dave’s Bread” with lettuce and mustard. Usually about 3 apples to snack on during the day and either a Clif Bar or a bag of almonds to keep up the energy. After the gym, I have a scoop of protein powder, pea protein is preferable.
Dinner is more of a crap shoot, but I try and always have a large salad with mixed greens and random veggies. Then add in some type of protein, be it black beans, garbanzo beans, chicken or fish. I’m not much of a red meat eater and actually keep the meats in general to a minimum, maybe a couple times a week.
The diet has been keeping me well fueled for training over the past year and has also knocked a few sizes off of my waist. This photo is hard to see, but yesterday I had to punch a new hole in my belt, it’s the fourth time in a year that I’ve moved up a notch. Perhaps that ice cream habit is keeping me from wasting away…
Enough about food, the clouds are breaking, I think it’s going to be a great day to train down here in the golf wonderland of Florida.
One final pic, here’s a nice pastel view of last night’s sky over the ocean:
