Heading south

I’m heading out. Fortunately, I’m fortunate enough to have family that will be in St Petersburg for the month of February, and they have an extra room for me too! So, instead of fighting with the Portland winter rains, I’m heading to a place where the pros spend their winters (at least as far as I know).

I don’t know anything about Tampa/St Pete, but I googled public golf courses and plenty came up, so I’m not worried about finding a place to play. I will spend tomorrow driving around town checking everything out to find some good places to spend the next four weeks. If anyone knows anything, please share!

Last week ended well, although it was a low energy and frustrating week altogether. Not sure what was going on, but Marijke came down with strep throat and I think my body must have been fighting it because EVERYTHING was a challenge, let alone working out! Hopefully I avoided any illness and will be back on track by Monday, but you never know, fingers crossed!

The week ended well because I hit my goal of two subpar 50 yard 9-hole rounds. Wasn’t sure I would be able to do it, but on my last round of the week yesterday I decided to just relax and have fun. And, in doing so, I entered the last hole 2 under, which was my goal because it’s a really tough green on number 9 of the Mason Course out at Columbia Edgewater (they let me check out the practice area one final time, thank you! It’s a perfect place to practice!!). Of course, I three putted the hole, but that still left me at one under, made it by the skin of my teeth! I had a lot of birdie looks on the round, my pitching was right on and I made three birdies, which was a personal record for me.
Every time I make a PR, I use it immediately as my new goal for all future rounds. This can lead to frustration, but at the same time helps me constantly push forward. You can never get comfortable in this game.. As in business or any creative pursuit, if you want to improve you have to push yourself. So, this week my goal is to average one under and shoot two 2-under rounds. It’s doable! I could potentially shatter my 2011 first quarter goal of averaging a 25 per round, that’s how I wanna roll!
St Pete, meet The Dan Plan. Nothing like a bit of sun to spark the morale!
