Returning anew
Back in action!
After a few nice days off in New York City, a most unfortunate voice-losing head cold and 6,000 miles of travel, I’m back in Portland in time for a nice little June shower and a wonderful piece of news coming later this week.
The news/announcement is about a new direction for where my practice will take place. Up to this date, I’ve trained and played only at the public courses around Portland, but now that summer is fast approaching and the legions of fair-weather golfers are returning to their posts, it’s time to be a be honest with myself and my training needs and to think about branching out and joining a private golf club.
I NEVER thought I would join a private golfing facility (or for that matter, any private facility). I’m the style of guy who always opts for the happy-hour meals and second run movies at the smaller theaters, and it was by living this way that I managed to save the necessary amount of money to head off on this journey in the first place. However, I’m also un-inclined to let money get in the way of what needs to be done in order to improve and will do whatever I need to do to have access to the best facilities for the project. If you want to be an overachiever in any field, it’s always best to study/train with those who are leaders in that field, you can learn by example as well as through instruction. Golf is no different and as the summer approaches and I’m actually starting to play some, it’s time to step up my game.
Over the past few months I have been checking out (almost always incognito, even if people don’t know about the project ) the different golfing facilities around Portland and there are some amazing choices! But, I have limited my search to one club in specific and once all of the paper work, etc goes through I will be an official member and have a brand new “home course.” I cannot tell you how excited I am to get the chance to practice there and everything else that comes with joining a club. When I announce the club later this week, I will also delineate my reasoning behind going this route..
For the time being, I will leave you with a bit of New York. This is a view of midtown, as seen from the parks on Long Island City in Queens:
