2 Percent and eyes on the prize!

It’s official, I’m 2 percent into the plan as of today.  I just realized it as I was updating the “stopwatch” page on The Dan Plan site (you can click on the stopwatch to see a little sample of my daily progress.).  The stopwatch is at 9,800 hours after today’s practice, which means that I worked off the first two percent of The Plan in about 6 weeks.  Doing the math, it looks like the entire journey is going to take 5.7 years, but I hope that will be knocked down a bit when I have more tricks in my bag and can actually PLAY a game of golf, as well as practice.  There’s also been a bunch of technical/business type stuff I’ve had to take care of in the opening weeks, so hopefully we’ll start cruising soon.   Regardless, I’m two percent into The Plan!

If I think about how much more I know about golf and how much better I am in the first two percent, I get a bit excited about the possibilities.  I really think that this is possible and that The Plan and golf could really be just about any pursuit in life.  If you’re willing to put in the time, it’s all possible out there in this world..

I am getting over my slump too.  I think that this realization that I’m 200 hours into it helps calm my frustrations a bit.  It’s hard to be frustrated if you can nix your expectations, but that’s not very easy to do.  I’ve been trying to block any assumptions of my putting skills while out on the greens to keep from getting frustrated when I miss putts.  Just four weeks ago, I would have done anything to just be able to hit 5 footers, and now I’m already getting mad at myself for missing a few!  “Simmer down now, Dan” I tell myself, “One putt at a time, you’re still learning..”

On a side note, my brother, Matt, and I went out again today and played a little 18-hole competition (on the putting green only, every shot was a par 2).  We went out to Broadmoor on Tuesday and I played horrible, but still managed to beat him by one stroke, although I gave him an 8-stroke handicap which was a tad bit overzealous to say the least.  Today, I felt like I played wonderfully and made a lot of good putts.  No matter, we tied the game.  It’s funny how you feel and your results can be completely separate from each other!  But, feeling good about your game and tying is much more satisfying than disliking your putts and winning, if you ask me.

Tomorrow starts the next 98 percent of The Plan.  One day at a time.
