A successful voyage north

The Tampa Bay Times reporter and I got back from Tallahassee late last night and I think all-in-all it was a success of a trip.  Admittedly, the conference was a bit smaller than I had imagined, but for being the first time that I had ever a) had a public speaking engagement, and b) presented The Dan Plan, I think that being more on the intimate side worked well.  I had made myself a bit nervous thinking that I would be standing in front of 70-100 people in an auditorium, but now that I have gotten my thoughts together and talked about The Plan once, I think next time I could stand up in front of a larger group and present the project well.  Public speaking, like golf, is something to work on over the next few years, one of the many skills that we can learn and grow with in life.

A highlight of the weekend was definitely getting to spend some time with Dr. K Anders Ericsson and Dr. Len Hill, the latter of which put me up for the night while in town, which I greatly appreciate.  I was able to have lunch with both of them, as well as with a former gold medalist gymnast from China, and talk about what I have learned thus far and about all of the questions I have concerning how to get better.  Unfortunately, and as I knew would be the case, there really is no way of figuring out whether my “progress” to this point is on track or not, but the two of them were able to reassure me that the important thing is that I am constantly progressing and learning.  We looked over some of the data I have recorded to date and you can see in it that even if there are lulls, I am indeed getting better in the larger scale.  So, it looks like we’re on track and all I have to do now is keep the train moving along.

On a funny note, here is Dr. Ericsson’s office, he was happy to show us the state of his working affairs:

The man has a lot of reading to do….

I also got an official certificate from FSU for presenting The Dan Plan:

Today, it’s back to training.  Slept in until about 7:30, had some breakfast, and am now going to hit the beach for a jog and then head over to Mangrove for a few hours of putting practice. (played Dr. Hill yesterday on 9 holes and he won by 2 strokes.  Neither of us played particularly good, and I definitely have some work left to do on Bermuda grass)

Back to the palms:
