A Typical Day

A few people have asked what my typical day looks like and seeing as there is a frost delay on the courses today it seems like a good time to talk about that.

A typical day of The Dan Plan:

07:00 Wake up/goal setting/meditation

07:30 Strength Training (see routine on landing page)

08:30 Breakfast

09:15 Arrive at course of day, dynamic stretching.

09:30 mastery learning testing practice (A full description of the drills involved with this will be posted soon.)

10:30 1.5 hours of range work in 15 minute increments of different tasks.  Mechanics, target practice, ball flight control, Interweaving, slow motion drills, posture tests, etc  also, short breaks between 15 minute sessions.

12:30 Lunch break and journaling previous afternoon’s session and this morning’s session.

13:15 One hour of short course work, including any shots from within 100 yards of the green from all types of lies and bunkers. allow some extra time for short breaks between 15 minute sessions.

14:30 One hour putting practice, all types of drills and ranges.  Working on what needs work in the putting game.

15:45 Nine or eighteen holes of golf with specific goals set for the round.  Sometimes this is straight play for handicap purpose, sometimes it’s 2 or 3 ball worst ball, sometimes I drop 4-5 balls from difficult rough shots to work on course play.  Always different but always with a specific goal.

17:00 Sun sets and time to head home.

17:30 Foam roll and ice any joints if needed.

18:00 Prepare and eat dinner.

19:00 Selective reminding, visuomotorization, mirror neuron training, guided visual imagery.

20:00 Catch up on backlogged emails from the day.

20:30 Pretend I have a life outside of golf.

21:30 Mindful meditation.

22:00 Inspirational reading (lots of biographies, golf books and anything that ignites the spark in the heart.

23:00  Bedtime.

That pretty much sums up a “typical day” of The Dan Plan.  This is what any day Sunday to Friday looks like and then I take Saturday off to rest the body and mind.  The schedule has definitely created some issues with the idea of a “social life” but that’s not my concern right now.  Right now, The Dan Plan and becoming the best golfer I can be is the number one priority.  You can’t have everything, but you can do one or two things really well if you prioritize your efforts.

There will soon be much more literature posted about what these drills and parts of my day are.  Perhaps in the next week there will be a posting of exercises.  The greens must be thawed by now, got to get to the course!
