A walk in the park
With the go-ahead of swing coach Christopher Smith (CS), as well as the “okay” from the good people over at Colwood National Golf Course, I ventured out to practice around some actual holes today. It was my first time (CS and I hit on a few holes out at Pumpkin Ridge on Sunday) playing on something other than a putting green and I quite enjoyed it.
I set up three “holes” on each of the greens I went to. All of them were a par 3 and roughly 15-30 yards long. My goal is to be able to shoot about 7 under per nine holes I play this way. Basically, from 30 yards out, a PGA player will be able to make it in 2 the majority of the time and that’s what I need to be able to do too. Today, I averaged 3 strokes for hole, so not anywhere near there yet, but I feel like I played a world better than I would have 6 months ago. Regardless, it’s a good beginning mark for me and something to keep working on.
From here, we will continue to work away from the hole. I hope to play these little games whenever I can (i.e. every day) and eventually push my distance back to where I am playing official par three courses from the real Ts, and then from there it’s just a matter of time before I’m playing on par 4 and 5s… One day…
But for today, I’m enthralled about my new adventure onto the course!
