Attention and remaining focussed on golf

The cat is out of the bag, so to speak.

Over the past two weeks, there has been a little bit of media about The Dan Plan and people have asked me if that is going to get in the way of training.  I thought about it and realized two things:

First off, the media is a fickle beast that can tear through a fad as fast as long toenails in old socks.  This is a long project and having a couple stories written here and there is wonderful, but the reality of a longevity venture like this one is that interest will probably come in waves, whenever there is a milestone there might be someone poking their head in to see how things are going and the rest of the time will be long lulls where I can hunker down and put in the hours.  Having some press is great, though, because the entire point of The Dan Plan is to help demonstrate how anything in life is possible if you are willing to put in the work, and without some attention, it would just be one person’s lonely pursuit..

Secondly, having some eyes on me while training is crucial for building the type of nerves necessary to make it at the highest levels.  I think that this could actually be very beneficial.  If I can get used to practicing and playing with both fans and haters watching then I’ll be building that same skill set that you can only learn in competition :)  Everyone says that the hardest thing about playing professional golf (outside of actually being able t0 play really really good golf, which I’m learning is quite hard in itself) is to be able to perform under pressure.

So, bring it on media peeps!  Help me learn what pressure really is :)

I also want to thank all of the new followers on FB and Twitter, it’s been such a supportive crowd so far and my heart is truly warmed.
