Carlsbad 2013

Although I just returned from Georgia, my next trip is right around the corner and I am super excited about it.  On February 20 I’m flying to San Diego to spend a day at Titleist and play a few rounds in the area before returning to Portland on February 25.  What began as a wedge fitting for some Vokey wedges has turned into a full day of Titleist fun. Check out this itinerary:

9:30 AM  Arrive Titleist HQ  (Carlsbad)
–Tour of facility, pictures, etc.
–Visit Tour Dept. and WedgeWorks
–Meet with Bob Vokey
11:15 AM
–Lunch with Chris McGinley (The Crossings at Carlsbad)
12:15 PM
–Leave for Titleist Performance Institute (Oceanside, CA)
1 PM
–Wedge fitting
3PM
–Tour of TPI facility
5:30 PM
Happy Hour (location TBD)
–I will invite some Titleist employees and we can discuss clubs, golf, whatever you’d like

Doesn’t get better than that!  I originally contacted them to get a wedge fitting and a month later the plans have grown and I am now going to actually get to meet Bob Vokey as well as tour the entire Titleist facility.  I have heard a lot of good things about both their HQ and the Oceanside TPI facility and can’t wait to check it out and grab some photos.

I didn’t realize it before, but anyone can get a full club fitting at their Oceanside building.  I thought it was for Tour pros only, but all you have to do is book a time and all of us can get a pro fitting.  I can’t wait to see what exactly a wedge fitting entails…

Another part of the San Diego trip is a round with Dr. Bob Bjork and Dr. Dan Schacter.  Two amazing psychologists who are both avid golfers.  I have many questions for these two wonderful doctors and am glad that a round lasts four hours to get them all in.

If only there was a camera crew to come along on this trip.  I think there will be some good things happening that are worthy of sharing as accurately as possible and the blog doesn’t always do justice to the experiences.  I will do the best I can, but hopefully one day soon the episodes will be back up as the ongoings get juicier.

In the meantime, I’ve been hitting the gym hard under the tutelage of Shawn Dailey.  We’re in the middle of a strength building period and will be working hard over the next 6 weeks to get that swing speed up.  There should be a blog post of my current levels and what we are doing in the gym to improve those in the next few days.  Stay Tuned.
