Down, but not out

Three days ago, when I was out at Pumpkin with Christopher, my right foot started hurting towards the end of my practice.  I thought it was just a little cramp or sore muscle, but when I woke up on Sunday it hurt so much to put pressure on that I could not walk.  Well, I could walk enough to limp around, but there was no way that I could use it to plant and carry my weight on a golf swing.  So, with great reluctance, I rested my foot for the day and iced it four times on the suggestion of my physical therapist Shawn Dailey.  By Monday morning it was feeling good enough to go out and putt, but definitely not well enough to chip or pitch.  Today it was better yet and I got to use my wedges for a couple hours, but every once in a while when I turned on it an incredibly sharp pain would shoot up my leg making me feel like I was going to crumble..  Heeding the feelings in my foot, I spent most of the day using it gingerly and putting instead of taking any large swings.

I knew the day would come when I would have to deal with some type of injury, but I didn’t expect it would just spring up out of the blue.  But, I guess that’s the uncertainty that we all have to deal with being human.  Luckily, this one is turning out to probably be just a sore tendon in my foot.  Still, it reminds me of how important it is to warm up and be as proactive about heath as possible.  I’ve got to remember to stretch too!

Other news, I’m loving having a swing room in my garage.  I know it’s not the fanciest spot in the world by any means, but it’s perfect for beating the rain and working on mechanics.  Just today I had a great realization about how to work my wrists while swinging and I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t have had quite the same proprioceptive moment if there had been a target in the mix.  Some times it’s good to NOT aim at anything.

I also set up a putting area in my house, photos of that to come soon.  Nothing fancy there either, but I can work after the sun sets at 4PM and that works with me!
