Gettin’ a groove on

I’m starting to appreciate St Pete and Florida for the golfing destination that they are. It took about a week, but I’ve found some great little places to practice and also a few par 3 courses that are just about perfect for my “style” game, that being roughly 50 yards.

Mangrove Bay is a public facility that has a nice Bermuda grass putting green, a large chipping area, a pitching area with sandtraps and a sloping green as well as a grass driving range. And, it’s all pretty cheap.  In fact, it’s free for peeps like me who don’t really use the driving range yet, except when I collect a bunch of range balls that people leave behind and hit them at the end of the day..

Treasure Bay is a fun par 3 that’s only 13 bucks after 2pm for unlimited play, so I’ve been going there on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s to get in 36 holes as well as some “driving” practice (again, 50 yarders). Not bad.

I also found the Chi Chi Rodriguez golf center that has putting, chipping and a driving range that’s lit so you can practice until 9pm.

It took a little time, but I’ve both found a routine in St Pete as well as met some good peeps. Not a bad place at all to spend a wintery month.
