the Masters and my first full round ever

It’s official.  This week saw one of the first days of Spring and it was a welcomed sight!  Seems like everyone got the itch to come back out to Heron Lakes and I saw a bunch of people that had been AWOL for the past 5 or 6 months.  Here’s how it looked Friday:

Not a bad turn on things.

Highlights of the week:

PT Shawn Dailey crafted a new “spring” workout for me which has a good bit of Core work, and weekly maintenance to prevent injury as well as stay as strong as possible until next winter when we can start building strength again.  Going to get that club head speed up to where it needs to be eventually!

Another highlight: I played an entire 18 holes on the Great Blue golf course out at Heron Lakes with just a pitching wedge and putter (from the red tees) and shot a 91.  It’s not a score for the record books, but it’s a great mark for me to start improving from.  I’ve been getting about 110-125 yards with the P wedge, so I can usually hit the green on a par 4 on the third shot (give or take depending on the distance, of course) and then two putt for a bogey.  I hit the greens on the par 3s and the fives sometimes take 5 strokes and incur a double bogey.  With better accuracy, I’m sure I can get my score down to the upper 80s and beyond.

Here’s the view from the third hole on the Great Blue:

So many great holes to play, it’s going to be great when I have a few more clubs in my bag!

For now, I’m taking my one day off this week and am watching the Masters.  It’s the first time I’ve really watched a major tournament and it is inspiring to see how well these guys hit the ball.  But, what’s most interesting to me is how they recover from trouble shots and watching their pre-shot routines.  I think having a solid pre-shot routine is one of the most important aspects to playing good golf.  It keeps you from making silly mental errors.
