It’s all about accuracy (think that’s a given..)

They are getting closer and closer these days

As you can see from the photo above, my accuracy has been getting a bit better over the past few weeks.  Seems like it was yesterday that I was hardly able to make solid contact and now when I hit 50 balls from random distances (none over 30 yards away yet) and from random places around a green, 50 percent of them land within one-putt distance and the other half are a quick two-putt away.

In a way, this was a bit of an astonishment to me.  It had been a few days of hitting away in the garage and working on my mechanics since I had last laid down 50 balls on the practice green to hit and there was a noticeable improvement.  Granted, I’m at the part of the learning process where you grow by leaps and bounds, but still, I was happy to see most every shot end up where I wanted it to..

In my shorter game, I realized today that I don’t have much of a flop shot.  I was playing with a fellow Heron Lakes daily practicer today and whenever we set up to hit a flop shot mine would shoot about 30 feet beyond the cup.  It’s safe to say that I worked on them for the majority of the afternoon and plan on hitting it hard in the AM when I feel a bit fresher.

Speaking of fresh, my coach, Christopher, called today to say they are ordering me a new pair of rain pants.  I wore mine out in the torrential storms of last week and as you can see below I did not survive the storm unscathed:

Even with rain pants on, the storms of late last week soaked through to the bone.

Hopefully we’ll have a new pair soon because regardless whether you’re a betting person or not, it’s pretty safe to say that this wasn’t the last storm to hit the Pacific NW.  Not sure what was going on with the pair I have, but with everything zipped up and tied off all proper like there was still some seepage..

On a drier note, I found out a couple days ago that my cousin is a golf pro down in Palm Springs, CA.  The last time I saw him was about 20 years ago in Savannah, GA and now we’re both out here on the west coast grinding away in the golf world.  What’re the odds!  I hope to catch up with him soon and hear all about his journey through golf-landia.  Hope to report on that as soon as possible.
