Just an old fashioned good day.

Some days you feel like a champ, regardless of how you played.

Today was a good day.

I’ve learned over the past six months that when the good times are rolling you really need to relish in them, because you never know what tomorrow is going to be like.  I was putting and chipping on par for my normal skill levels, but I felt in touch with what was right and wrong in my strokes, a good sense of proprioception.  I realized, among a few things, that I need to keep my shoulders down when I putt in order to form a better (i.e. more consistent) arc to my swing.  In that vein, I also noticed my consistency increase when I use my core muscles to stabilize my lower body during a putt.  Basically, I’m finally starting to form my putting swing.  It’s not there yet and I know I will be tweaking it for the rest of my life, but for the first time I think I’m starting to get it.

My wedge work was also feeling enlightened today.  Not sure what clicked, but it did and I appreciated it.  After a few weeks of just feeling a bit confused, today I felt like I had been hitting wedges my entire life and was making solid contact with the ball almost every time and no matter the lie of the ball.  The main realization was something that Christopher showed me at our lesson last week, being the importance of keeping a still lower body on the smaller chips.  When I do this I manage to hit the ball without hitting the ground in front of it first.  Simply amazing.

Also speaking of enjoying a good day, I chopped a bunch of wood during my “break” this afternoon and am now sitting in front of the first fire of the season.  I really love the fall and am looking forward to spending many evenings relaxing by the fireplace while recovering from a long day of golfing in the rain.  Here’s to not looking forward and simply enjoying the now.
