My Florida schedule.

Here’s how I’m going to structure my time while training in Florida.  It’s proven to be affective so far (after three days..) and I hope that it will allow me to grow as a golfer while I am here.

Mondays and Wednesdays:

Begin with putting.  make 30 one-footers, 25 three-footers, 10 five-footers and then hit 20-40 foot lags for 30 minutes aiming to hit 80% in my “success zone.”  Take a five minute break between each putting exercise.

Head to pitching area and work on small pitches for one hour in 4 fifteen minute blocks.  First block:  Sand wedge shots focussing on aim.  Second block: Pitching wedge with emphasis on bump and run.  Third block: Sand wedge lob shots.  Final block:  Pitching wedge for height.

Then, hit the sand trap for 30 minutes of bunker work, split that between “hitting the line” (focus on hitting before the ball) and actual contact.

Lunch break.

Head back to putting.  Start with 15 minutes on the putting tutor and then 15 minutes with 6-foot putting drill.  then 30 minutes of lag drills.  After lags, play a 9-hole putting game and if I get 18 strokes or less I can finish putting for the day.  If I’m over 18 strokes I must work on wherever my weaknesses were.

Go over to the chipping area (separate from the pitching area) and hit 100 chips, trying to get at least 65% within 6 feet.

Depending on energy and time, do an hour of “free-for-all” or head to the gym.

Tuesday and Thursday:

Warm up with some putting, 25 putts from all distances 1-foot to 40-foot.

On these days, focus on pitching for distance and accuracy.  Start at the pitching area and work on getting the ball as close to the pin as possible while hitting every way possible (ie. low, medium and high shots and slice, hook and straight.  all with both clubs)

After 3 hours of this, take a lunch break and hit the gym.

In the afternoon, head to a par-3 course and play at least 36 holes.  Determine beforehand what your goal in the round is and then hit that goal.  Currently, goals should be 26 strokes or lower.

Friday:

A free-for-all.  Work on what were some of the weaknesses in my game through the week.  Pick a topic Thursday evening and decide some goals to strive for and go for it.  Play at least one 9-hole round for score, this is the “important” round of the week, so try and make it feel a bit pressured.  Have an extra long workout in the gym today.

Saturday:

Take it off.  Go fishing with the family.  Relax a little, will ya!

Sunday:

Start the week in a good mood by playing 9-holes and then work on all strokes and distances briefly and without getting frustrated.  Mentally focus on what is working in my game and be positive!
