New avenues

A new sand wedge, the third, and newest, club in my arsenal.

I went out to see Christopher at Pumpkin Ridge today and he had this sand wedge waiting for me.  I’ve never owned a sand wedge, nor hit with one, but I can safely say that it is an exciting addition to my very limited bag of tricks.  It’s amazing what you can do with one.  Right off the bat (or should I say club) I made decent contact and flew the ball about twenty feet in the air and instead of rolling when it landed it almost came to a dead stop because of all of the spin.  The pitching wedge hits it lower and further, it’s good for a shot where you want a lot of roll, but with this one you can really stick the ball somewhere where you don’t have much real estate.  I’m excited about going out tomorrow morning and seeing what all I can do with it out at Heron.  Seems like the possibilities are endless with both of these clubs.

In other news, a videographer is coming into town from Baltimore next week to do some filming.  His name is Matt Roth and he’s a great photographer with a passion for the quirky and a rarely-parrelleled drive to document life.  He will be a perfect fit for The Dan Plan and I’m excited about what we will be able to capture during his stay.  With a bit of hard work and some luck on our side we will be able to splice together a much better summary clip of what has happened thus far with The Plan.  It’s just in time, too, because October 15 will be the six-month anniversary of The Dan Plan.

In some ways it truly feels like six months ago I was working my job out in Newberg, but in  many ways I cannot believe half a year has passed already.  At the beginning of The Plan, I was honestly feeling a bit daunted by the idea of training every day for four years, but now I realize that time passes much more quickly than we would expect or like and four years will be here before I can say “wait for me!”  Now, I’m not so much worried about putting in the time as I am that I will have enough time to train as much as I would like.

Regardless of time, I have the third of fourteen clubs now in my hands and I’m excited about the doors that this new one will open for me in the coming days-weeks-months-years.  It’s off to sleep and then off to the course for me.
