still working on that handicap

It’s going to be a few more weeks until I have an official handicap.  Since I started registering rounds about ten days ago I have gotten one 18-hole and 2 9-holes in the system so far.  I figured it would take a few weeks to get to there (it takes about ten full rounds to get one) and am definitely not in a hurry.  If there is one thing that I have learned through this process thus far it is that patience is a winning virtue in golf.

Also, last week was a rebuilding week.  I met with Christopher last Sunday and he had me making some pretty major swing changes in moving the ball more forward in my stance and adjusting my swing accordingly so as not to hit the ball fat every time.  I’m still working on this, but am much more comfortable than I was last week with it.  These adjustments just take time and it’s never a good idea to immediately bring them to the course, so I didn’t get many round in.

I did get to play the Portland Golf Club last week which was pretty awesome.  I tried to play it with a mix of the old swing and new and all in all it was a fairly successful round.  I brought out the 3-hybrid for fun and shot an 89 from the whites.  I could get the hybrid down the fairway a decent tick, but was almost always behind a tree in the wrong spot and gave my second stroke to the golfing gods with a little punch-out to the fairway.  But, after just three days of swinging the hybrid I was happy with the results.  I managed to not horribly shank a single ball and actually played the entire round with the same Nike 20-XI ball that I started with.  I think this was the first time I did that, typically I lose at least a couple balls..

Heading out to practice.  Just took two days off to let my body rest a bit and am feeling great this morning.  It was tough to stay off of the course yesterday, but sometimes you have to keep yourself from the things that you love in order to truly appreciate them.  So Instead of golfing, I went on a 6 mile trail run.  I was kind of amazed that I actually felt good throughout the entire run; a year ago I wouldn’ t have been able to finish.
