Teamwork

No man is an island, as they say.  And along those lines, despite the fact that golf is a fairly individual sport, I never wanted this project to be a one-person show.   In fact, I don’t even like blogging in the first person, but have not figured out a good way to talk about my daily training thoughts in a third person point of view (and it might seem even more egocentric if I did…).  Since the beginning, I’ve wanted to grow The Dan Plan into something that was much larger than one person attempting to become a PGA Tour golfer, I wanted it to be a sound board for everyone out there who is trying to attain their long-term goals.

As of today, I haven’t figured out quite how to open up the dialogue to everyone, but I’m constantly trying to find a way and if anyone has any suggestions, we’re all ears!  (Perhaps I should start using we, as in the royal we)

I firmly believe that you can accomplish anything in this life if you are willing to put in the work.  That said, knowledgeable help can vastly improve and accelerate one’s journey.  I have a golf coach and strength trainer and the two of them have made it possible for me to grow quicker than if I was heading out alone in the night.  It’s important to surround yourself with experts, so much so that it is one of the tenants of Deliberate Practice and something that Dr. K Anders Ericsson (who’s thoughts were brought to the limelight by Malcolm Gladwell)  insists is necessary for achieving the highest levels of expertise.  Proprioception in golf will only take you so far, you’ve got to have some external unbiased eyes assisting you along the way.

No matter what you are trying to achieve, it’s best to keep an open mind for criticism and feedback.

There have been countless days where at the end I say ,”that was the best day yet!” and today was one of them.  The sun was out, my swing was on, I had a few revelations about my chipping and got some great emails from good people reading about the project.  Best day yet!
