This is how it went

So..  I’ve been having some issues off the tee lately.  It’s really getting in the way of scoring, as one would expect.  There are days where I hit the majority of the fairways, then there are days like this:

Today’s round out at Heron Lakes’ Greenback course.  Conditions were about 52 degrees and raining for the majority of the round with long thick rough that was soaked and soggy fairways.

Hole 1: Par 5.  Pulled my drive to the right side where I was blocked by a tree and had to punch out.

Hole 2: par 4.  Pulled the drive again behind some trees and had to punch out.

Hole 3: par 3.  160 yards water carry that landed just short in a muddy bunker.

Hole 4: par 4. Hit a solid drive, but it got a bad kick and landed on the left side in the rough behind a tree, had to punch out.

Hole 5: par 5.  Went a bit right of the fairway and ended up buried in the rough, hit a 7 iron that got caught in the grass and only went 100 yards.

Hole 6: par 4. Solid drive that took a bad kick and bounced in a muddy fairway bunker.

Hole 7: par 3.  The tee shot was tracking the hole but had a bit too much draw on it and ended up in the rough with a bunker between me and the green.

Hole 8: par 4. Pushed it in the water down the left side.

Hole 9: par 4. Pulled it just a bit too far right and was blocked by a tree, had to punch out.

Hole 10: par 5.  Pushed it in the thick rough left of the fairway.

Hole 11: par 4. Hit a bomb over a bunker and actually landed in the fairway.

Hole 12: par 4. Carried a bit too far over the fairway and ended up in the rough behind a tree, had to punch out.

Hole 13: par 5.  The tee box was sloped and the ball was above my feet.  I let it get to my head and ended up hitting the ball way low on the club face which shot it out just a few feet above the ground.  It hit a mound and got trapped in the rough just 100 yards from the tee.

Hole 14: par 3.  Over drew it on the 205 yard par 3 and it ended up in the rough.

Hole 15: par 4.  Solid drive that landed center of the fairway with 80 yards to the flag.

Hole 16: par 3.  Was a 160 yard water carry with 170 to the pin.  Hit what I thought was a solid shot but it dropped just shy in the water.

Hole 17: par 4. The ball shaped exactly how I wanted it to, but just didn’t have enough umph on it so landed in between two fairway bunkers in the rough.

Hole 18: par 4. Pulled it a bit and ended up in the rough, but actually had a clear shot at the green from 200 yards away.

That’s the bad news.  The good news: I managed to make bogeys on almost all of the holes where I was punching out and made a couple of pars from them.  All in all, I shot a 91, which isn’t a score I like seeing, but was a decent round considering the issues getting out of the box.  The long clubs are still new to me and when they go it’s not pretty.  I do hit the ball in the center of the driver, but have not found my square club face quite yet.  This is something that I will work on hard over the next three days and will try to find my tee shot before Saturday’s tournament.

I love this game.
