Tourney time.

I’m entering what could be seen as my first tournament this Saturday.  (I say “what could be” because earlier this year I participated in a four-person scramble when I had 4 clubs, which was a great experience, but hard to say it was an official tournament because of my limited distance ability.)  In some ways, this one might not be “my first official” either because it’s a two person shamble, meaning we both tee off and then we each finish our own ball from the best tee shot.  But, I’m taking it serious and it will be the first taste of a little tournament pressure.  There will be a time down the line where I enter my first solo tournament and I guess that could also be considered my “first official,” but for now this is where it’s at.

My partner played on the University of Oregon golf team (you always have to bring a ringer, right :) ) and great off the tee.  My job off the tee: go second and if he misses a fairway I stick the 3-hybrid somewhere in the middle 200 yards out..  We have a great chance of winning this thing.  There are 72 teams competing and it is taking place at Heron Lakes on the Great Blue golf course, which is the first course I ever played on out here in Portland, OR.  I’m hoping that we tee off from the blacks as I’ve never had a chance to play from the tips.

I’m very excited for this.  I think the main issue I will be dealing with is to keep my excitement down and to focus on every shot.  What a great learning experience!  And, did I mention, we’re going to win!

Off to get ready for tomorrow.  I’ll write a post about it all as soon as I get a chance.  Have a great weekend!
