TPI certified and on to TrackMan

This weekend has been a three-day return-to-school style trip to Seattle.  Yesterday and today I attended the Titleist TPI certification seminar here in the Emerald City and tomorrow I am attending a TrackMan University class at TPC Snoqualmie to better understand the data that machine produces.  It has been an amazing learning experience so far and will provide tons of fodder for future blogs.

Tonight, though, I am a bit too mentally drained to really get into details in an orderly fashion about the weekend thus far, but I did want to clear up a question that a lot of people have been asking me.  Namely, they are wondering if it made sense to get fit for clubs before undergoing a large swing change.

The answer is twofold:

  1. I communicated with Titleist that I would be making a swing change and they fit me into their most advanced performance irons (AP2) which will allow for that growth.  That is also why VP of Tour Promotions Larry Bobka was there to assist in the fitting.  Larry was aware of the changes that I was planning on making and helped fit me for those.
  2. Titleist fits many players every day knowing that people are working to improve their swings (even PGA Tour players).  Specs may change over time.  They have offered me the ability to come back to Oceanside and get re-checked and have the set changed/modified as needed.  Fitting is by nature a dynamic process.

Those are the basic reasons why it makes sense to get fit today and then work on the swing tomorrow.  A good fitting should provide you with a set of clubs that can grow with you as you improve your golfing skills and I am confident that I had a good fitting.

So much more to come soon.  I have some homework to do and one more class to attend, but will post all about the weekend as soon as possible.

Thank you all for the questions and for continuing to follow.  It means the world to me!

One more thing..  Hats are finally in!  They’re really great, too:
