episode looks great!

take this with a grain of salt, but one thing that stuck out to me about your stroke was how far out your elbows were getting. perhaps your instructor said something about it off-camera, but from what I’ve heard keeping your elbows in helps you maintain a good swing path and better contact with the ball.

I picked that up from a cool feature that Golf magazine ran a few months ago. They interviewed Marius Filmater, an instructor who measured and studied 50,000+ putting strokes to debunk popular “putting myths” and establish a few rules of thumb.

I actually watched this video last night at ~11:30 central time. I think that makes me this sites biggest fan.

I’m thinking in order for you to meet your prediction of under a 3 handicap by 7,000 hours you need to drop ~one stroke off your index for every hundred hours.

Man, that seems like a lot of pressure Don’t forget my timeline, 7,000 = ~6 handicap, 5,000 = ~4 handicap. Honestly though, even that seems generous. I feel like it should be more like, 9000 = 20, 8000 = 12, 7000 = ~8-9, 6000 = ~5-6.

It breaks the swing into different sections and gives excellent insights into every aspect of the swing from set up to follow through. I am in the process of reading through it and it is certainly building up a clearer picture for me of what the perfect swing should look and feel like.

Hi Ben,

A few people have noted my elbow position in that video and I appreciate that. Putting is a funny beast and whatever is working for you at that time is what’s working for you at that time. I’ve tried a number of different arm positions and documented my success rate with each and currently I feel most comfortable and make the most putts with my elbos out and having my grip “pull” on the putter instead of push in. It’s a funny style, but it’s what works for me. Things change over time and perhaps there will be a day where I have my arms tight against my body or use a belly putter or side-sadle style, no telling, but for now I do what I do because it’s what seems to work.
